Autograph Letter Signed, to William Herdman[?], wishing to send a historical picture to Liverpool for exhibition, referring him to favourable comments in the Athenaeum of 10 July on West’s picture in the Westminster Hall exhibition, entitled ‘Chaucer at the Court of Edward the Third’. 2½ pages 7 x 4½ inches, minor blemishes and light creases only. 29 Grosvenor Street, London, 2 August, no year given [1847 or later]. Samuel West (c.1810-c.1867), Irish painter of portraits and historical subjects. The painting mentioned in the letter was completed in 1847, and exhibited in Cork in 1852.
