Autograph Letter Signed ‘G.A. New Zealand’ as Bishop of New Zealand, to “My dear Friend”, making the arrangements for a party and asking him to tell Rogers. A good one page example 7 x 4½ inches, embossed heading GA NZ. Richmond, 1 February 1855. George Augustus Selwyn (1809-1878) was consecrated Bishop on 17 October 1841, and sailed for New Zealand on 26 December. He was a significant figure in the development of the colonial churches, and his travels to the Pacific Islands led to the formation of the separate diocese of Melanesia. Selwyn College Cambridge was built in his memory. Frederic Rogers, 1st Baron Blachford (1811 – 1889), Newman’s pupil and disciple and lifelong friend.
