Autograph Letter Signed ‘G.A. NZealand’, to Mr. Achill, acknowledging his letter and hoping to have a meeting to discuss his correspondent’s son. A good one page example, 7 x 4½ inches. Richmond, Surrey, 24 May 1854. George Augustus Selwyn (1809-1878) was consecrated Bishop on 17 October 1841, and sailed for New Zealand on 26 December. He was a significant figure in the development of the colonial churches, and his travels to the Pacific Islands led to the formation of the separate diocese of Melanesia. Selwyn College Cambridge was built in his memory.
