Autograph Letter Signed ‘Houssein, grand visir’, to Lord Loftus, addressed “Monsieur l’Ambassadeur’, confirming his reception at five o’clock at the palace. Annotated “From Persian Grand Vizier with Shah of Persia”. In French. 2 pp. 5 x 4 inches, in good condition. Undated [1871-73], possibly during the Shah’s visit to Europe in 1873. Mirza Hosein Khan Sepahsalar (1828–1881) was the Grand Vizier of Persia during the Qajar dynasty under King Naser al-Din Shah Qajar between 1871 and 1873. Lord Augustus William Frederick Spencer Loftus, (1817 –1904), was a British diplomat and colonial administrator. He was Ambassador to Prussia from 1865 to 1868, to the North German Confederation from 1868 to 1871 and to the Russian Empire from 1871 to 1879 and Governor of New South Wales from 1879 to 1885.
