Autograph Letter Signed ‘Olinthus Gregory’, to Cesar Moreau (1791-1860), Director of the French Statistical Society, praising his “statistical researches”, offering to contribute to the Society’s proceedings, sending two of his own works, one being The Englishman’s Almanack. 2 pp. 9 x 7 inches, in good condition, docketed in red crayon, integral address leaf (window mounted). Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, 6 January 1834. Olinthus Gilbert Gregory (1774-1841), mathematician, author of text books on mathematics, mechanics and astronomy. Gregory’s books included Hints for the Use of Teachers of Elementary Mathematics (1840, new edition 1853), and Mathematics for Practical Men (1825), which was revised and enlarged by Henry Law in 1848, and again by J. R. Young in 1862.
