Autograph Letter Signed ‘Alexander George of Teck’, as a 17 year old schoolboy about to return to Eton, to Mrs. Richards, thanking her for the brush she has given him for his birthday, glad she is back “in dear old England”. 2 pp. 7 x 4½ inches, in good condition, with the original franked envelope. White Lodge, Richmond Park, 19 April 1891. Alexander George of Teck, Earl of Athlone (14 April 1874-1957). He was Governor-General of the Union of South Africa (1923-1931) and Governor-General of the Dominion of Canada (1940-46). When Prince Alexander was nine years old, his parents for two years fled the United Kingdom for continental Europe to escape their high debts; but the Prince remained at Eton College before moving on to the Royal Military College, Sandhurst.
