Autograph Letter Signed ‘E.Strangford’, to Miss Whitehead, a gracious letter sending Christmas and New Year wishes, hoping she returns “a giant refreshed”, adding that fee-paying pupils are required “for dear Agnes Nixon”. 3 pp. 5 x 4 inches, in good condition, traces of former mounting. 3 Upper Brook Street, 23 December, no year given. Lady Strangford (d.1887), the celebrated traveller and author, who trained as a nurse after her husband’s death championed nursing causes, and in 1877 superintended a hospital for Turkish soldiers at Adrianople.
