Description

Autograph Letter Signed ‘R.Norman Shaw’, to R.Lewis, about work at St. James’s Street & Cleveland Row, explaining that the plan “requires a great deal at working at”, but he hopes to have enough to show the directors the following week. 1 page 8 x 5 inches, in clean condition, top right corner torn away, with the integral blank leaf. 6 Ellerdale Road, Hampstead, 9 August 1901. Richard Norman Shaw (1831-1912), one of the most fertile of all British architects, comparable in breadth of invention perhaps only to John Nash and Edwin Lutyens (who much admired Shaw in his early years). Robert Lewis was a tobacconist and cigar importer at 19 St. James’s Street.
