Autograph Letter Signed, to Monsieur Coquerel in Paris, interested by his piece on the insects of Madagascar, hoping that the museum in Geneva can purchase some of these insects for the collection. In French. 1 page 8 x 5 inches, with the franked address leaf, a few blemishes only. Geneva. Postmarked in France 19 January 1860. Henri Louis Frédéric de Saussure (1829-1905), Swiss mineralogist and entomologist specialising in studies of Hymenoptera and Orthopteroid insects. He also was a prolific taxonomist. In 1854 he travelled to the West Indies, then to Mexico and the United States of America. There he met Louis Agassiz. He was a member of the managing committee of the Natural History Museum of Geneva, ensuring that its collections of Hymenoptera and Orthoptera became one of the best in the world.
