Manuscript Receipt, signed ‘A.Newland’, for the sum of £1699, for discharging Premiums due to the Governor & Company of the Bank of England, pursuant to a Treasury Warrant., annotated “Malt Tax 1794”. 1 page 9 x 8 inches, very fine, impressed Treasury Stamp. 23 November 1797. Abraham Newland (1730–1807), banking official. He became chief cashier of the Bank of England in 1782. His signature on Bank of England notes became so familiar that they were known as Abraham Newlands.
