Autograph Letter Signed ‘Geo. W.Manby’, to Charles Manby, the civil engineer, asking him to enquire from Marshal Soult whether he was able to present G.W.Manby’s memorial to the King of the French, and whether there are any hopes of the King agreeing to National Humane society “for the saving of Sailors”, as Manby will be seeing Members of Parliament about this subject. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, with the address leaf, in good condition. Royal Barracks, 4 January 1839. George William Manby (1765-1854), inventor of marine life-saving equipment. Manby was a schoolfellow of Nelson at Durham.
