Autograph Letter Signed, as King’s Librarian, to John Forbes Royle, informing him that the King is “graciously pleased to order a Copy of your work, ‘On the Botany of the Himalayan Mountains”, for the Royal Library. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, one clean tear repaired, otherwise in good condition, with an integral blank leaf (verso dust soiled). 26 Half Moon Street, 14 February 1834. Uncommon. William Macmichael (1783–1839), physician and medical biographer, remembered as the author of The Gold-Headed Cane (1827). Macmichael’s A Journey from Moscow to Constantinople in the Years 1817, 1818 was published in 1819. In 1829 Macmichael was appointed physician extraordinary to King George IV, became librarian to the King in 1830, and became physician in ordinary to King William IV in 1831.
