Autograph Letter Signed, to “Dear Madam”[Mrs. Bush], explaining that he only received her invitation on his return from Muddyford at midnight. A good one page example, 7 x 4 inches, with an integral blank leaf (traces of mounting). Waterloo Place, 9 May 1895. Fergus Hume (1859-1932), prolific novelist, author of The Mystery of a Hansom Cab, set in Melbourne, with descriptions of poor urban life based on his knowledge of Little Bourke Street. It was self-published in 1886 and became a great success.
