Autograph Letter Signed, to Charles Barber (painter, d.1854) in Liverpool, thanking him for the Bank Bill of £70 in payment of the picture purchased from Howard by Mr. Rothwell, pleased with Barber’s account of the success of his Exhibition. 1 page 10 x 8 inches, in good condition, a little dusty, with the integral address leaf. London, 31 October 1828. Henry Howard RA (1769 –1847), portrait and history painter. In 1811 he became secretary of the Royal Academy and in 1833 he was appointed professor of painting at the Schools. While his history paintings were in a neo-classical academic style following Flaxman and others, his portraits continued the general tradition of English 18th-century portraiture and many of his portraits are in the National Gallery.
