Autograph Letter Signed ‘Hampden’, to Mr. McMillan, thanking him for the cutting, “but I hate snakes and other horrors”. 1 page 8 x 5 inches. On the verso is a part letter forwarding this to an autograph collector in 1897. Government House, Sydney, 21 April 1896. Henry Robert Brand, 2nd Viscount Hampden (1841 – 1906), Governor of New South Wales from 1895 to 1899. Hampden Bridge in Kangaroo Valley, NSW is named after him. “… I hate snakes and other horrors. I really would rather walk 10 miles the other way from Mr. McGarvin Smith’s milking factory.”
