Autograph Letter in the third person, to Miss Atwood, answering her question relating to his Physical Atlas and metamorphic and igneous rocks, declaring that the text “relates entirely to stratified rocks containing organic remains”, and explaining this in detail. 4 pp. 4 x 7 inches, in good condition, remains of guard where formerly mounted. Museum of Geology, Jermyn Street, 4 September 1850. Edward Forbes (1815-1854), naturalist, geologist, marine biologist, traveller in Europe and the Levant, author of numerous scientific papers. At the end of 1842 Forbes obtained the curatorship of the museum of the Geological Society of London. To the duties of that post he added in 1843 those of the professorship of botany at King’s College London.
