Autograph Letter Signed, to Messrs. Howell & James, who have requested permission to copy Dicksee’s famous painting ‘Harmony’. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, a minor stain only, in good condition. 2 Fitzroy Square, 23 February 1883. Sir Frank Bernard Dicksee (1853-1928), Victorian painter and illustrator, best known for his pictures of dramatic historical and legendary scenes. Harmony is one of the most well known pictures by Dicksee, depicting a young man staring adoringly into the eyes of a girl playing the organ. In this letter Dicksee responds to Howell & James’ request. “I much regret to inform you that it is not in my power to do so. I have parted with the copyright to Mr. Agnew of Old Bond St. to whom I must refer you.”
