Cooper’, to Mr.Harding at Lackington & Co., Finsbury Square, explaining that he had to go to Uxbridge “to make a Drawing from a large Picture”. 1 page 8 x 7 inches, with the integral address leaf, in good condition. Edward Street, Hampstead Road, 12 June 1818. Robert Cooper (fl.1800-1836), printmaker, an elusive artist about whom little is known. He was chiefly employed in engraving portraits, as in Lodge’s Portraits of Illustrious Personages. Cooper was a prolific engraver of book plates and vignettes. “…I am getting on with the Portrait of the Marquis of Montrose, but am fearful I shall not be able to completely finish it under a months time; as you did not express a wish to have the work hurried I hope the above time will not be attended with any inconvenience with respect to the Publication…”
