BRUNEL, Sophia. 15803 Autograph Letter Signed ‘S.Brunel’, to her daughter Sophia, asking after her husband Benjamin Hawes, saying she would like Sarah Donkin to visit in the summer, and commenting on the health and spirits of Marc Isambard Brunel, adding that he “is certainly not able to bear it if there is anything to annoy”, mentioning as one cause the affairs of Pinchback (one of the draughtsmen employed on the Thames Tunnel from 1824). 1½ pages 7 x 4½ inches, in good condition, address leaf. Undated. Sophia Kingdom married Marc Isambard Brunel in 1799. Their children were Sophia (the subject of this letter, who married Benjamin Hawes), Emma, and Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the famous engineer.
