Autograph Letter Signed ‘Wm. Brockedon’, to Balmains, Mornington Place, explaining that “unexpected circumstances” have kept him from providing the information his correspondent requires, but that when he next returns to London “I will furnish you with what I can upon the subject”. 1 page 9 x 7 inches, with a few lines and signature overleaf, integral address leaf, in good condition. Bedford Square, 18 February 1823. William Brockedon (1787-1854), painter, author, and inventor. His works included Illustrations of the Passes of the Alps; Italy, Classical, Historical and Picturesque; some of the letterpress for David Roberts’s Views in the Holy Land, Syria, &c. His inventions included various applications of vulcanised india-rubber. In 1830 he took an active part in the formation of the Royal Geographical Society.
