Autograph Letter Signed ‘Richard Bright’, asking for advice following Mr. Arnold’s [Thomas Arnold, headmaster of Rugby] expressed wish that Bright’s son, Franck, remains at Rugby for another year, asking his correspondent to explain to Dr. Plumptre [Master of University College] that Franck will be entered for October 1851 instead of 1850. 4 pp. 7 x 4 inches, fine. 11 Saville Row, 4 December 1849. Uncommon. Richard Bright (1789 – 1858), English physician and early pioneer in the research of kidney disease. He is particularly known for his description of Bright’s Disease. His elder son, the subject of this letter, was James Franck Bright (1832 – 1920), historian and Master of University College, Oxford.
