Letter Signed ‘Atholl’, to “My dear Lord” [Admiral Lord Keith], discussing likely local candidates to be appointed Justices of the Peace. 2 pp. 9 x 7 inches, fine, docketed by Lord Keith on the verso of the integral blank leaf. Dunkeld, 11 August 1818. John Murray, 4th Duke of Atholl (1755 –1830). He introduced Japanese Larch into Great Britain, planting the trees at Dunkeld, where they hybridized with the first European Larch in Britain, planted by his uncle, the second duke, and gave rise to the Dunkeld Larch. He wrote “Observations on Larch” in 1807.
