Sir Henry Yule (1820-89), traveller and geographer, served in India in many capacities from 1840, serving in both Sikh Wars, and as secretary to the mission to Burma (1855). He published many works, including a famous edition of Marco Polo which appeared in 1871, and the Anglo-Indian glossary, Hobson Jobson (1886). His many papers awakened public interest in the history and archaeology of Central Asia.
