Autograph Letter Signed, to Mr. Roberts, written on Woolmer’s return from Italy, clarifying a misunderstanding over the payment for Woolmer’s picture The Playful Infant, having received two payments, offering to return one payment or remain his correspondent’s debtor “considering the scarcity of money at present”. 2 pp. 7 x 4½ inches, in good condition. 7 Cleveland Street, undated. Alfred Joseph Woolmer (1805–1892), English painter whose subject matter covered the literary and historical genre. He was exceptionally prolific and, by age sixty, the number of works he had exhibited had reached 355 at the Society of British Artists, 45 at the British Institution, and 12 at the Royal Academy.
