Autograph Letter Signed ‘Wolseley’, to “My dear Bushby”, saying that he has several Nelson letters, and discussing alternative names for the 60th and 95th Rifles. 3 pp. 6 x 4 inches, in good condition, some paper adhering to the blank verso of the second leaf where formerly mounted. Manor House, Haslemere, undated. “I have several of Nelson’s letters I am glad to say, for I regard him as the National Hero of modern times.” Field Marshal Viscount Wolseley (1833-1913), one of the great military figures of the Victorian army, who served in the Crimea, India, China, Egypt and the Sudan. In 1890 Wolseley became Commander-in-Chief, Ireland. He was promoted to Field Marshal on 26 May 1894.
