Bagshot Park, 9 October 1825. Prince William Frederick (1776-1834), Duke of Gloucester, nicknamed ‘Silly Billy’, son of Prince William Henry, Duke of Gloucester, brother of King George III. From 1811 until his death he was Chancellor of the University of Cambridge. “In the Morning Post of yesterday it is stated that the Heads of Colleges in our University went over with an Address to the Duke of York at Newmarket. It is not mentioned in the Cambridge Paper nor in any Letter I have received from Cambridge. What is the Fact?”
