Description

Autograph Letter Signed, about “particulars of my professional life” apparently requested by his correspondent. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in good condition. 16 October, no year given. Sir Richard Westmacott (1775-1856) the elder, sculptor. In 1827 Westmacott succeeded Flaxman as Professor of Sculpture at the Royal Academy. “I sometime have sat for my portrait for the Editors of the Magazine who have taken great pains to get up my Psyche …” Westmacott’s sculptures of poetical subjects were in a style similar to those of the contemporary Italian school: his works of this type included Psyche and Cupid for the Duke of Bedford.
