Autograph Letter Signed, addressed ‘Sir’, expressing how gratified he is to be elected as an Associate Exhibitor by the Society of Painters in Water Colours. 1 page 7 x 4 inches, with defects, holes along left edge where formerly mounted, lower right corner torn, taking away the final ‘l’ in Westall. 7 Upper Titchfield Street, 14 June 1810. An uncommon and desirable autograph, but with defects. William Westall (1781 – 1850) was an English landscape artist best known as one of the first artists to work in Australia. Westall, as a young man, served as landscape and figure painter on the famous voyage of exploration under Matthew Flinders (1801-03). Westall became an accomplished illustrator of topographical works in England.
