Autograph Receipt, signed ‘W.Westall’, for ten guineas for a Drawing for Mrs. Haldemand. 3 x 7 inches, in fine condition, traces of mounting at corners only, with a stamped Three Pence receipt. 31 October 1826. An uncommon and desirable autograph. William Westall (1781 – 1850) was an English landscape artist best known as one of the first artists to work in Australia. Westall, as a young man, served as landscape and figure painter on the famous voyage of exploration under Matthew Flinders (1801-03). Westall became an accomplished illustrator of topographical works in England.
