Autograph Letter Signed, to Edward Cooke R.A., about the end of copyright for some shipping drawings used in a book published in 1829. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in good condition. Bodleian Library, Oxford, undated. William Sandys Wright Vaux (1818-1885), Keeper of the Department of Coins and Medals in the British Museum, antiquary. Vaux’s knowledge was large and varied, more especially in all that related to oriental antiquities. His Nineveh and Persepolis: an Historical Sketch of Ancient Assyria and Persia, with an Account of the recent Researches in those Countries (1850; 4th ed. 1855), did much to popularise the discoveries of Layard and other travellers.
