Autograph Letter Signed [to Thomas Twining], saying he has just returned to London from Liverpool, regretting that he is unable to visit because “the distances in London are so extreme that one never gets to do all one had an idea to do.” 1 page 8½ x 5½ inches, right margin slightly ragged, otherwise good. London, 4 August 1872. Johann Georg Varrentrapp (1809-1886), German doctor, one of the pioneers of public health care in Germany. Influenced by Edwin Chadwick he studied public health care, workers’ housing , protection against infectious diseases, vaccination, the water supply and the proper sanitation of cities, the prison system, etc.
