Autograph Letter Signed, to Coply Fielding, asking for a reference for his nephew “Doctor Henry Uwins who is candidate for the new medical appointment in the Artists’ fund”, reflecting on the importance of assisting the coming generation. 3 pp. 7 x 4½ inches, fine. Victoria Road, Kensington, 28 January 1850. Thomas Uwins (1782-1857), painter. In 1847 he became keeper of the National Gallery. “His son is no way behind him in gentleness and benevolence, with a touch of young England sitting gracefully about him – Every age has its distinct character – I have lived till every thing around me seems new.”
