Autograph Letter Signed, to J.Chapman, discussing proof sheets, the expense of illustrations, the design of vignettes, and other matters relating to the publication of his book (probably Local Self-Government and Centralisation). 4 pp. 7 x 4½ inches, folds, in good condition. 5 February 1851. Joshua Toulmin Smith (1816-1869), political theorist, lawyer and local historian of Birmingham. In 1851 his work Local Self-Government and Centralisation was published and followed in 1854 by The Parish and its Obligations and Powers.
