Autograph Letter Signed, to Charles Waithman, written on the verso of a Venetian invoice for glass, discussing its shipment to England, Topham’s own building works, and other matters. 1 page 9 x 6 inches, edges worn. 86 Adelaide Road, 7 September 1870. Francis William Topham (1808–1877), watercolour painter, traveller in Spain, and illustrator of Dickens. Dickens recruited Topham to his amateur theatrical company, the Guild of Literature and Art, and the painter frequently performed with Dickens, Wilkie Collins, and the artists Clarkson Stanfield and John Tenniel.
