Autograph Letter Signed ‘F.W.Topham’, about the completion of a drawing, hoping that his correspondent will find it improved, suggesting a price of six guineas. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in good condition. Undated [watermark 1856]. Francis William Topham (1808–1877), watercolour painter, traveller in Spain, and illustrator of Dickens. Dickens recruited Topham to his amateur theatrical company, the Guild of Literature and Art, and the painter frequently performed with Dickens, Wilkie Collins, and the artists Clarkson Stanfield and John Tenniel. “I will give you a line as soon as I have finished the little oil picture and the smaller drawing. I am anxious to bring them to a close soon, as I want to start for Spain on the 7th of next month.”
