Autograph Letter Signed ‘G.Tinworth’, to Mr. Sparks, referring to Tinworth’s “memory of old times”, regretting his correspondent’s poor health, alluding to the happiness of his own boyhood. 1 page 7 x 4 inches. In good condition. 8 Maze Villas, Kew, [c.1905]. George Tinworth (1843-1913), ceramic artist, exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1866 to 1885. After the Royal Academy art school he got a job at Royal Doulton, the famous Lambeth pottery manufacturer, in 1866. It was at this point that Doulton started producing art pottery with George Tinworth as their main designer. “What a hard struggle this life is – when I was a boy I was a happy boy, although I did not know where the next meal was to come from. I had no dread of the future, but now I am 62 it is different but I must keep on an do the best I can till the end.”
