Autograph Letter Signed with initials, ‘Yours evermore, to the knife blade, B.B.T.’ to S.S.Osgood in London, giving his news, discussing his health, his current work, praising Osgood’s book and looking forward to seeing him back in America. 2 pp. 10.5 x 8 inches, with address panel, postmarks, occasional defects and tears. Boston, 18 January 1839. Benjamin Bussey Thatcher (1809-40), lawyer, philanthropist, advocate of African colonization as a solution to the slavery question, author of Indian Biography (1832). ‘Let no flattery, no short lived success, deceive you to remain longer in such a Pandemonium as London is.’ Thatcher’s works also included a Memoir of S.Osgood Wright, late Missionary to Liberia (1834).
