Autograph Letter Signed with his monogram, to Tom Taylor, the editor of Punch, suggesting that ‘the “Cracker” take the form of NO POPERY [sketch on first page of the letter], and explaining the reason for his choice. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in good condition, minor traces of former mounting. 10 Portsea Road, Maida Hill, undated [watermark 1868]. John Tenniel (1820-1914), caricaturist and artist. Illustrated ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ (1865) and ‘Alice through the Looking-Glass” (1872). “It comes so much better so – & would do away with the repetition of the words – Pamphlet & Papal Infallibility – which occur in this week’s cut. I can make nothing out of an actual cracker.”
