Autograph Letter Signed, to the Secretary of the Census Section of the International Statistical Congress, discussing the “Forms” of the Census Returns, the most important classifications to be included on each form, comparison with France, the columns for religious denominations, etc. 2 pp. 9 x 7 inches, in good condition. 47 Albion Street, Hyde Park, 19 July 1860. Colonel William Henry Sykes (1790-1872), naturalist and soldier, Chairman of the East India Company in 1856, served in Bhartpur under Lord Lake (1805) and served in the Deccan in 1817-1820. He was Statistical Reporter for the Bombay Government from 1824 to 1831, author of numerous scientific and literary works, including The Taeping Rebellion in China (1863).
