Autograph Letter Signed, with news of an unknown star discovered in an early edition of Ptolemy, “as important as unexpected”, asking for half a page for a description. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, fine, with Smyth’s bookplate laid down on the integral blank leaf, neatly mounted. 19 January 1844. Admiral William Henry Smyth (1788-1865), scientific writer, astronomer, was one of the founders of the Royal Geographical Society.
