Autograph Letter Signed with initials WSS, to Mrs. D [?], forwarding the news that her pension had been settled, with an enclosure (not present) from Lord Melville’s private secretary, “who wishes to make a merit for his patron of this concession in the ordinary course of business not as you know originating in that office …” Together with a separate signature “Yours afftly, W. Sidney Smith” taken from a different letter. 2 pp. 9 x 7½ inches, light staining and other blemishes. Dropmore, Lord Grenville’s, 29 April 1805. Admiral Sir William Sidney Smith (1764-1840), hero of Acre (1799). Annotations on the letter record the family connection between Sidney Smith and the Grenvilles.
