Two lengthy Autograph Letters Signed, to the same correspondent, about book and print sales, and publications, with reference to “Chevalier Sykes”. In French. 2 letters, 4 p., 9 x 7 inches, a little dusty. Portland Place, 20 November 1823; Whitehall, 18 August 1824. Henry Smedley (1785-1832), lawyer and print connoisseur. He agitated for the British Museum to bid at the Sir Mark Masterman Sykes sales in 1824, and bid there on its behalf. He also gave various prints to the BM in the 1820s.
