Autograph Letter Signed, to Mr. Turner, bearing in mind what he said about the Glee Club, and hoping he will add Sladen’s novel A Japanese Marriage to the Brentford Public Library: “It’s fifty times as good as the Japs at Home.” 1 page, 7 x 4½ inches, integral blank leaf (newspaper cutting on verso), in good condition. Undated. Douglas Sladen (1856-1947), author. He studied at Trinity College, Oxford, and went to Australia (1879), where he became the first professor of history in the University of Sydney. Subsequently he travelled much and settled in London as a writer. “… I always set my face against entertainments at parties. I think introductions are the best form of entertainment.”
