Autograph Letter Signed, welcoming his correspondent into the Codean Society, adding that Messrs. Constable will send him ‘The Code of Health’. 1 page 7 x 4½ inches, laid down. Edinburgh, 23 March 1820. Sir John Sinclair (1754-1835), first president of the board of agriculture, polemicist, author of The Statistical History of Scotland, A History of the Public Revenue of the British Empire, etc. Sinclair devoted his later years to what he called the Codean System of Literature, in which all knowledge was to be summarised in four departments, agriculture, health, political economy, and religion. The Code of Health was published in four volumes in 1807.
