Autograph Letter Signed ‘Catherine Sinclair’, to Mrs Dewar, regretting “not having the pleasure of joining your agreeable circle”, having to spend the evening instead with “a relation of ours who is about to leave this country for ever”. A good one page example, 7 x 4 inches, light traces of former mounting. Undated. Catherine Sinclair (1800-64), novelist, and author of works on female education, Scotland, short stories, ‘Modern Flirtations, or a Month at Harrowgate’ [1841], etc. One of the drinking fountains in Edinburgh bears her name, on account of her philanthropic exertions in that city.
