Autograph Letter Signed, thanking his correspondent for the books, commenting on the religious content, and enquiring after the health of Mr.Forster, although “I know not why we should regret any good man’s summons from a world like this”. 1 page 9 x 7 inches, lightly tipped on to an old album page, in good condition. Irongates, Frome, 11 May 1840. John Sheppard (1785-1879), religious writer, friend of Thomas Chalmers, joined the anabaptists in 1806. His published works included ‘Letters on a Tour in France’ [1817], ‘An Autumn Dream’ [poem, 1837], and ‘On Dreams’ [1847].
