Description

Autograph Letter Signed ‘W.Scrope’, discussing the proofs [of Days and Nights of Salmon Fishing in The Tweed], insisting on a number of alterations, including an amendment to the plate of Melrose Abbery, before forwarding the blocks to Mr. Murray, and asking his correspondent to “accept a copy of my Deer Stalking”. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, one pin hole, generally in good clean condition. Wherstead Lodge, Ipswich, 7 January, no year given. William Scrope (1772-1852), artist and sportsman, author of The Art of Deer-Stalking and Days and Nights of Salmon Fishing in The Tweed. “There is a Trifle which I wish you to amend in Melrose Abbey, which is to Efface entirely the Lower Part of the Stem of the Tree in the Fore Ground on the Right. It is astonishing how much Harm that little dark Spot does to the Picture. Be so kind as to efface it and send my three or four Proofs of all the Blocks you have in your Possession & then to forward them to Mr. Murray, who has the Letter Press.”
