Autograph Letter Signed ‘Henry Sass’, to Mrs. Somerville Wood, saying he has found “a copy of my journey to Rome & Naples, which I herewith send”, discussing a meeting “to oppose the schemes of that corrupt Body, the Council [of London University]”. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in good condition. Charlotte Street, Bloomsbury, 22 February 1835. Uncommon. Henry Sass (1788-1844), English artist and teacher of painting, who founded an important art school, Sass’s Academy (later “Cary’s Academy”), in London, to provide training for those seeking to enter the Royal Academy. Author of ‘A journey to Rome and Naples, performed in 1817 : giving an account of the present state of society in Italy, and containing observations on the fine arts’ [London, 1818].
