Autograph Letter Signed ‘H.E.Roscoe’, to Charles Santley, the baritone, having heard report of Santley’s conversion to Catholicism, assuring him that “it will make no difference in our friendship” and hoping that “the change will add to your happiness”. 1 page 7 x 4 inches, fine. Manchester, 9 July 1880. Sir Henry Enfield Roscoe (1833-1915), chemist, professor of chemistry at Manchester (1857-1886), worked on the preparation and properties of pure vanadium. He assisted Bunsen in his research on the measurement of the chemical action of light.
