Autograph Letter Signed, to Elizabeth Briggs, wife of Henry Perronet Briggs, the painter, explaining that “my Medical Man” forbids her going out, hoping to call on Friday, and assist her: “I should be very glad to undertake the work you mention…” 2 pp. 7 x 4½ inches, with the remains of the address leaf. Undated [watermark 1833]. Emma Roberts (1794-1840), author and journalist. She wrote much about travelling in India, including Oriental Scenes (1830), Scenes and Characteristics of Hindostan (3 vols., 1835), The East India Voyager (1839) and Notes of an Overland Journey to Bombay (1840). “I should be very glad to undertake the work you mention, having often thought of rendering my acquaintance with India subservient to the instruction of the rising generation.”
